This is definitely a CompUSA issue.

For anyone new to Apple Support; if you need to call for service you're
given a choice of taking it to the nearest Apple Service Center of your
choice (Fry's or CompUSA in my neighborhood) or they'll send a tech to you.
Last year I had warranty issue on a PC Compatible model. The last time I
needed warranty service was '93 and since then my favorite dealer had
called it quits. I opted to try CompUSA.

I couldn't get a stable Windows install. The problem was hard to trace but
the logical next step was to replace the hard drive. Apple Tech Support
agreed and authorized a new HD under warranty. CompUSA bench tested the
computer and pronounced it whole. Since they couldn't find a problem in
hardware it was obviously a software conflict and they wouldn't honor the
warranty regardless of Apple's position. They wouldn't even order the
drive unless I agreed to pay for it.

I called Apple back and asked them to send out a technician. He came to my
office and swapped drives. That didn't help. He ordered a new PC Card and
was back in 3 days to install it. Problem solved. I was very pleased with
Apple's attitude. They proceeded logically and never balked at doing what
should be done.

Of course the most impressive thing about Apple's support is how rarely
I've needed it since '84.
