are you running and cennecting using MacPoet or any type of PPPOE software?
Most DSL and Cable modem vendors are doing this now. You have to connect
using that software first. Are you getting a static IP fro mthe cable modem
(obviously not) if using DHCP. Are you trying to use a linksys routers on
your end?

Try hooking the cable modem directly up to your machine, or to a windows box
and see what happens. Can you get a static IP number from the cable
company? After enough hassle they might cough one up.
