Next message: FRANKENSTEIN Paul: "RE: [WinMac] G4 vs P4 Speed Info"
Tom Roth's message on CD ROM burner just beat me to the list.
I am looking for a SCSI DVD burner. Anybody have any experience with any of
these devices they would mind sharing. This would be for archiving project
drawings. In my case, a CD burner is not enough as some projects are as big as
2-3 GB. This would be used mostly on PC but Mac compatibility would be an
asset. Speed is not critical (but but would be nice) but reliability would be.
I realize this is still all new but are there any known issues with long term
durability/reliability of the media like with some CD-ROM media? I remember
seeing a site that seemed almost entirely devoted to CD-ROM and discussed
media issues; I thought I had bookmarked it but I can't find it. Does anybody
have a reference to this or an other site that might adress DVD media issues?
What are the issues with standards. There seem to be competing standards; any
thoughts on what is the best way to go for the long run. I don't have concerns
about compatiility with consumer DVD players as this is only for data
archiving.
What about software? Does Toast support DVD. On the PC side, what would be the
best bet.
Whew... TIA
Yves
