The first DVD (vs DVD-RAM) reccorders are finally coming out at a
reasonable price.
Since they'll write data dvd's as well as dvd's that WILL play in
commercial DVD players, they'll kill everything else out there in the
market. The standards war is over.
Get one of them. Pioneer's DVR-A03 is out (IIRC this is the same as
Apple's Superdrive) for <$1k (internal IDE version) External Firewire
versions are $1200 at Publishing Perfection
(http://www.pubperfect.com/pio ) That's just the one catalog I had to hand.
Never mind Dan, firewire drives work, and work well... I know several
people who have gotten Firewire CDR's and they all rave about 'em.
If you need one now, go get it.
SCSI as a general purpose interface is on its way out. For RAID
applications, Ultra SCSI still beats everything else out there, but for
scanners, CDR's, DVDR's, etc, firewire beats it hollow.
