    Hi Brian,

Some answers inline - but not many, I'm afraid...

There should be a BIOS setting that controls where the system looks when
booting up. The "classic" sequence is 1-floppy; 2-first hard drive, but for
the last few years PC BIOS's have allowed this to be altered. If you set it
to 1-CDROM; 2-first hard drive, it should attempt to boot from the CDROM if
there is one in the drive, otherwise from the HD. (The range of settings
here should tell you whether the computer thinks it can boot from a USB
    device.)

If you're lucky there'll be a utility called "hardware setup" which lets you
adjust BIOS settings through the Win GUI. But there should also be a way of
accessing the BIOS setup early in the boot process (in case an incorrect
setting is preventing the machine from booting). Make sure you know how to
    invoke this!

I don't know - but if you do it suggests there's a desperate flaw in the
    legacy-free concept!

USB issues apart there shouldn't be any problems booting. But if you load
plain vanilla DOS the system will assume it's a US keyboard (and will also
use the default - US - codepage). To avoid this you need to include KEYB and
COUNTRY lines in CONFIG.SYS; I don't have the details to hand but could
probably dig them out if you need them.
