That depends upon which printshop you use. Many local presses still
aren't set up to accept PDF files for making plates. They want the files
in the original PageMaker, PhotoShop, etc., format, along with all your
fonts and art files, hardcopy dummy and maybe even separations printouts.
And although the current versions of these applications create
cross-platform files, many printers still prefer to view the files on
the same platform on which they were created (this means that many even
small printers will invest in one Wintel machine for jobs created by
people who don't have a Mac.) The reason for this is that, as good as
today's technology is, sometimes the same fonts will look different on a
PC than on a Mac, taking up more or less space and throwing off the
layout. The same file can look different even from the same brand of PC
to PC, and it's a big pain for printers to have to deal with.
Check with your printer and request specifics on how they want you to
send your jobs. Your hardware/software may well be important to them.
