We have tried and used Lucent (Orionco ) cards with the Airport Base
Station, as well as Aironet cards on Windows Laptops (as well as the Orionco
cards). I have even set up a Lucent Access point with a Orionco Gold card
(128 bit encryption) and that works with Airport Clients very well. I am in
the process of getting a Aironet Access Point to try as well. The key is to
make sure is supports 802.11b and WEP encryption.

The Lucent AP-1000 and the Aironet version of the Access points have a few
    advantages.

    1. 10/100 Ethernet and wireless backboning.
2 power from the Ethernet line.
    3. Larger range with additional indoor antenna with the AP-1000.

The key is that the Lucent antenna CAN be used with the Airport Base
Station, however you have to physically modify the Base Sation (place
appropriate warranty warning here) to use the antenna.
