[WinMac] Re: PostScript platform independent?

        Milan:

        Actually, the answer is Corel files. When you perform an Autotrace of a
scan in Draw, it has the tendency to place more than 999 Bezier points on a
path, causing *SOME* RIP's to choke. Generally, the RIP's that choked used
PostScript "interpreters" (meaning PostScript emulators). I'll wager that
if you downloaded the same file into a LexMark printer you would get the
same result.

        [I used to bash Corel Draw pretty heavily when I was a columnist on
PRODIGY specifically because it did indeed produce poor quality PostScript
code. However, some service bureaus had no problem whatsoever, while others
constantly had problems. Recently, I became a Corel Partner because they
support the AlphaNT platform.]

        The solutions are to either:

        A) Clean up the points, reducing them to below 999 points per path;
        B) Reduce the tolerance in Trace;
-> C) You may have hit on something when you said the files distill into
Acrobat properly. What happens if you reopen the distilled Draw file in
Illustrator and re-save? (The latest released version of Acrobat Distiller
uses PostScript version 2017.801)

        Milan, this issue you raise is not so much a Mac/Windows issue, but rather
a Draw/Illustrator issue. Personally, I don't care so much for either
vector draw app -- Corel Draw because it can get "funky," and Illustrator
because the UI (User Interface) is too Byzantine. Try Altsys, err, Aldus,
err, Macromedia FreeHand instead. :)

        Cheers!
        Dan
