We are (oddly enough) experiencing relatively "seamless" sharing of
schedules, e-mail, and attachments usingExchange and the latest version of
Outlook for the Mac. After dealing with a mail system based on the old
(PC) MS Mail and (Mac) Quarterdeck Mail (can you say "clogged gateway"?)
we made the transition to Exchange/Outlook a few weeks ago, and although
there were subsequent IP issues to be addressed, our initial Appletalk
implementation of the Outlook client went rather smoothly. Among other
duties, I support 20 creative department Macs and PCs in a sea of 1000+ NT
machines. Our systems include older PPC systems as well as G3s with
OS 8.5. We can connect to the Exchange server via Appletalk or TCP/IP.
The only issue I know of right now is that a "resource" (boss) on a Mac can't
share full Calendar ownership with a "delegate" (assistant) on a PC
or vice/versa. (Not an big issue with us.)

I think it is important to note that we are using the version of Outlook
(mentioned by Jim Royal) that is available at:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/exchange/exchange-public/fixes/Eng/
Exchg5.5/SP1/

and *not* Outlook Express which is comes with Office '98 and Mac OS 8.5,
and which supports POP3, etc., at the expense of Calendar functionality.
We address that issue by implementing "internet" mail at the Exchange server.
Why doesn't M$ combine all features into one fully functional Mac mail client?
Why is there air? (I don't know.)

I have not traditionally been a big fan of anything Microsoft creates or does,
BUT, in all honesty, will probably include relieving my Mac clients of the
inconvenience and stigma of being the only ones in the company not able
to share schedules and attachments as one of my top accomplishments this year.
That, and finally cleaning out my garage. ;-)
