        Christopher:

First off, you should also be subscribing to the AlphaNT mail list. You
can sign up at:

Second, you must make sure you run CHKDSK... Most likely the NTFS file
system itself could be corrupted. Personally, I don't use the CLI -- I
right-click on the partition in "My Computer," scroll down to Properties,
and run CHKDSK from there... I usually don't bother with checking bad
blocks, though. Then, I reboot so the CHKDSK can run. Then, I watch the
blue screen to see the errors. If there are any, then I repeat the
procedure... Although this takes a few minutes, it's well worth the time
spent.

You'll need to do this before backing up: Take your time, or you'll have
150 gigs of flipped bits!

Also, if you do a backup and restore, make sure that your software handles
all the NTFS data streams: NT's Backup does this, and so does UltraBac.
These extra streams are needed because in the NTFS internal file structure
there is a special way dual-fork Mac data is handled.

 ----------

Now when you reformat, use Disk Administrator in NT4SP3: It fixed a lot of
bugs, and doesn't cause the extra overhead of SP4's NT5 driver.

Lastly, I highly recommend UltraBac <http://www.ultrabac.com> for a dump
this big... In addition, UltraBac is native AlphaNT.
