I don't think it's a big problem. The BDC can be promoted to the PDC
if/when the PDC leaves. It's a pretty standard procedure and I've not heard
of any problems with promoting a BDC. When installing NT Server, you have
the choice of:

Domain Controller (PDC or BDC)
Member Server (i.e. server but not a Domain Controller)

and maybe one or two other choices.

The point is, there's nothing different in the OS of a PDC or BDC, they just
know that they are domain controllers. It would be impossible, however, to
promote a non-Domain Controller to Domain Controller status--you'd have to
reload the OS. Fortunately you're not in that position.
