Last time I looked the only new machines in the sales channels were all
G3-based. Refurbished/remanufactured 44/63/64/65xx machines, however, are
still floating around out there (as are 86/9600s).

Ten to one OS X *will* run on a 86/9600; I'm willing to take the chance that
it'll run on my PowerCenter (7200 motherboard design).
In any event, by the time OS X actually ships (sometime before the end of
1999, probably sometime before NT 5), those 604-based machines will be
coming close to the end of their production life cycle, and will be due for
replacement.
