A Windows app better than Media Player is Sound Impression--but I
don't know if it's still available. It just happened to come on my
home computer. I didn't find it on Winfiles.com, but that might not
necessarily mean it's no longer around...

I like it in that it gives you a graphical representation of .wav
files, and lets you edit the sound in _several_ ways (turn a mono
.wav into stereo, add effects, take away noise, adjust the gain,
etc.). It will also let you create playlists of MIDI files.
