Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions for my Exchange difficulties.
Today I was finally successful in getting it to work on my Mac. I made a
host file with one entry for the mail server and cha-ching! It opened
right up.

FYI, I created the host file according to the instructions in the Open
Transport Read Me. All my other settings are the same as before.
