Robert,

Not to prolong the agony of these comments, but just a few further observations and
thoughts before I desist.

I believe the point I was trying to make about the imac and external monitors . . .
is . . . that you should be able to buy a refurb 22 inch screen on the cheap and it
should be able to work with the imac's vga out (although I do not know the
specifics). It sounded like you were going for the real estate. Whether or not
you get a multiple screen desktop or not, is not such a big deal . . . as . . .
whether you get a big screen real estate. I think this is possible . . . and still
on the cheap with the imac. The pixel count is somewhat limiting, but 1024 x 768
isn't that bad.

Especially with the new iMac, the flat screen can be tilted any which way, out of
the way, or to other viewers . . . many unusual possibilities . . . making it a
unique instrument of monitor viewing . . . and it still might not be in the way of
a really large external refurb monitor. You could probably place the new iMac on
top of some large monitors, if you had to.

A curiosity:

I am curious as to whether those PowerMac G4 towers also can work with inexpensive
refurb large screen monitors . . . and whether these are of high caliber. All I
ever see advertised with the towers is the very expensive monitors. If I thought I
could get a decent monitor for under $200, I might actually buy one of those good
deals on the towers. However, I sure do enjoy the small space of the imac all in
one on my limited desk space.

Another thing . . . whenever I have looked at the large high dollar screens that
are sold with the towers, I have seen lines in the screen (some sort of mesh causes
this -- trinitron screens, I believe) and have been told that the lines are a
feature. Hmmm! Some feature. What I think they meant was that the lines were
for sure there, were visible, and there was nothing that could be done to get rid
of them, so why not enjoy them as a feature. Every part of the screen except for
the lines in these expensive monitors is awesome in clarity and resolution. It
seems the mesh is in some way responsible for this clarity. Those lines bug me
though. I guess I could get over it.

May God grant that you get the computer of your hopes and dreams and may it be the
Mac that gets this honor.

God Bless you and us all.

Ouch. That would suck eggs for music and graphics on a CRT, but
again, we're talking about LCD, a new frontier for me. I suppose I
could drive up to Raleigh or Greensboro (or wherever the heck it is
they sell Macs around here) to look at one, but I need to use this
money yesterday. Yeah, I know...quick decisions of this
magnitude are bad decisions.
