I went out and measured the screen on the new i-Mac the other day in a store.
It is 12" (minus 1/16") across and 9" down (viewable area). This is pretty
close to the average 17" CRT in size. My old Applevision 17" is 12 1/4" by 9
1/4". Your mileage may vary. By the way, it is really bright and sharp. The
movement of the support arm is also really smooth.

One other point to note is that if you have a 19 inch screen to hook-up to the
i-Mac, the max resolution is as stated above. It only does two resolutions:
1024x768 and 800x600.

To echo Bruce Johnson's comment, too bad they don't offer real multiple
monitor support with split desk top. It would have been a killer machine.
