Hi all,

I'm having a baffling problem the solution to which eludes me. I
hope someone here can help.

BACKGROUND: Our College has an NT 4 Print Server which, in addition
to serving the PC users on campus also serves the Macs in our labs
and Computer Classrooms. (I won't get into WHY, suffice to say it's
necessary.)

Our current server is an aging Dell server with a 10Mb NIC. (This is
important later.) I have been prepping a new server to replace it: a
Gateway 6400 also running NT 4 Server with SFM. The new server has a
10/100 NIC and is plugged into a 100Mb switch.

A fair number of our lab Macs are original iMacs and B&W G3s. I have
discovered that these Macs (also on 100Mb switches) can NOT print to
this new server! This was driving me batty until a colleague
suggested putting my test iMac on 10Mb. I did and everything
worked!! I have tried all combination of this now with no success.
I Put the new server on 10 and the Mac on 100. Nothing. I tried
different ports, different switches, all to no avail. If the Mac is
on 100, it will not print. And that seems to be the ONLY thing
"wrong" with it! Its networking seems to be fine in all other
respects, INCLUDING printing to other 10Mb NT4 print servers!!!

The Macs are all running Mac OS 9.1. I even tried a clean install,
checked for firmware updates, PRAM zap, etc... And we do NOT have
spanning tree active on our network.

Stumped,
...ROMeyn
