Well after a lot waiting I finally have it working again. But, I'm
not sure what the problem was. File sharing was suggested by several folks
but it was turned off. I tried slaving the hard drive to an older G3
powerbook and got it to mount but still couldn't do anything with it as far
as opening files or installing a new system folder on the hard drive. What
I finally did was boot the book with a 9.0 disk ( even it's own software
disk wouldn't work). By clicking and waiting 2-3 minutes per action I
finally go to intialize the disk. Initialization took about 3 seconds. The
book immediately started responding normally. This morning I installed 9.0
on it. When I restarted it came up with a window saying " This disk not
recognizable, do you want to format it?" The format it recommended was PRO
DOS! Anyway I hit cancel and everything seemed fine. I then updated to
9.0.4, restarted, got the same message, canceled and everything was fine. I
pulled the DVD and put in the VST super disk ( hey, the prodos message made
me suspicious) updated the driver and everything seems ok except the book
seems to occasionally check the VST or the DVD drive for something when
there's nothing in them. Other than that it seems better now. Oh, when I
initialized if offered the option of zero all data but NOT low level
format. I choose neither. So that's my story. Thanks for all the help.

    P.S.
If you know anything about my G4 Cube post let me know. I'm trying
to get the cube and flat monitor package and if the cube can't work with OS
X Server the boss ( and I) will no go it. MVK
