Next message: Welch, John C.: "RE: [WinMac] Bronze PB freezing"
Thank for all the responses. Let me update the situation. The owner
says he had sys 9.0 not 9.0.4 installed. First off I tried booting with
Diskwarrior but it doesn't see the drive which surprised me because I have
had pretty good luck with DW. Nortons was a no go by the way. Ditto for
Tech Tool. I can boot with a 9.0 CD but it takes forever. I tried to
reinstall 9.0 twice but it wouldn't work with the hard drive. The second
time it gave me the message "Mac OS ROM file on this startup disk is too
old to be used with Mac OS 9.0.20". When I tried to open the Hard Drive it
just hung there, not frozen but just incredibly slow. I can't get at the
hard drive files so I can delete the sys. folder or anything in it. My
slave cable is out with another powerbook or I'd try mounting the drive as
a slave, copying the files over and wiping the drive and reinstalling. When
I tried to reinstall 9.0 it said it didn't see a sys fldr. Hmmm. Anyway the
hard drive window has just opened and anyday now I'll be seeing files in
it. ;-) Thanks again for all your suggestions. MVK
