            Hal,

            You can set up an LPR queue on an NT4 server, so AFAIK you can do this in
    Win2k. Keep in mind there are TWO links when using any spooler:

            1) The link FROM the workstation TO the spooler;

            2) The link FROM the spooler to the printer.

            Link 1 can be LPR, since (in almost every case) the spooler can "suck in"
    the job (unless the spooler has either crashed or the spool disk is full).

            Link 2 is the critical link: A parallel cable (for an NT2000 spooler) will
    work for any printer; or in the case of a networked PostScript printer using
    the AppleTalk stack will work quite nicely - Even in a Windows-only
    environment.

            For all of the AppleTalk bashing, it DOES do one thing extremely well:
    PostScript printing (due to its' built-in PAP (Printer Access Protocol) on
    the Session layer - Just above ATP (AppleTalk Transaction Protocol) on the
    Transport layer.

            Unfortunately, on the Apple campus AppleTalk - And PAP - got smeared by
    Steve...
