That's what's killing me. The monitor is the old "Macintosh Color Display," one of the simplest monitors around (or so I thought). The thing is, the monitor goes wacky upon power-up. If it was only going goofy after the system loaded, then I would think it was a preference issue. However, the same behavior happens no matter which disk I boot off of. To me, this means it is not a system software issue. It happens too early in the boot sequence - right after POST but before accessing the disk, at the screen rasterization stage.

I think that the video output adjusted itself to the Interex adapter and will not adjust back. I have tried several DIP switch combinations (including one recommended by Interex tech support), trying to get it to reset, but nothing has worked.

Hrm... Back to the TIL, I guess. Wish me luck!

It was the refresh rate that the computer 'remembered' so when I hooked the old monitor up, it could only use one setting and it automatically reset to this. Now this was sometime ago (probably os 7.6.1 or so) but it might work if you have an old monitor (non-multiscan) around. Also were you networked? Could you login remotely and just change the refresh rates until you got one that worked with the apple monitor (75hz maybe)? Or boot off a cd or diskette that had a standard os which should be the correct refresh rate for an apple monitor and
