Another possibility would be to set the ports on the switch itself to
half-duplex...

However, when I was dealing with this problem previously, I remember
getting a beta Ethernet extension from Apple that worked fine with
full-duplex... However, more details are unavailable since my memory is not
that good, and of course things changed with the G-machines...
