        RAMDoubler is an excellent product written by some VERY smart
folks - though newer versions of the MacOS VM do some neat tricks
that RD doesn't. However, I grant that the ability have file
mapping w/o wasting disk space is a GOOD THING!

        It has to do with the need of the MacOS to maintain
compatibility with older products and things like "low memory
globals", system heaps, etc.

        That's not what file mapping does, Dan. File mapping allows
a program to refer to the contents of a file as if it was actually in
RAM...
