[WinMac] Using a Zip USB PCMCIA drive on a Mac

Dear All

I recently bought a ZIP 250MB USB drive with the PCMCIA card attachment. I
had been assured by both Iomega Australia and our local Zip reseller that
the PCMCIA card would work on my Lombard PowerBook.(running 8.6)

The idea was that both myself and my colleague (using a PC laptop) could now
use a zip drive with out all the power cables and other paraphenalia.

Having now got it, of course, it doesn't. The official response from Iomega
head office US is 'sorry we don't have drivers for the Mac'. And that's
that.

Apart from this not being a satisfying response -ie why there are no
drivers, it also seems rather strange. There obviously are PCMCIA things
that do work with Lombard PowerBooks so there must be some drivers out
there.

The drive when plugged into the PCMCIA slot does get power but the Powerbook
does not recognise a Zip drive as being present. Plugged in through the USB
port everything is fine but the PCMCIA means the powercord/transformer is
not needed and so is much preferable

My question then is: Am a being fobbed off and there is an answer to my
problem or do I just have to live with the USB option? (and grit my teeth
that my colleague with a PC laptop can use PCMCIA)

Thanks for your help

best regards

David Francis
