[WinMac] RE: Color Printer for Mostly-Mac Network

Ugh. I've had my fill of Phaser III-Pxi wax printers. They smell (but
not as bad as jet fuel!), they waste lots of wax, they take 20-30 minutes
to warm up; and worst of all the color rendition sucks. Badly. Try
printing out a picture of a fruit basket, like the sample included in the
Photoshop tutorial.

Yeah, they're OK for presentations - And they *will* print
transparencies. But I'd rather have a color laser for general office use,
a 6 color Epson Stylus for color proofing, or a Fujix Pictrograph for
photo output.

If I never see a wax burner again, I'll be thankful: The only place
there should be melted colored wax is either in a candle or at the
Crayola museum! :)

        Cheers!

        Dan

We've just bought a Tektronix 840 Designer Edition printer (to help our
aging HP Color Laser). Everyone at the office is stunned at the print
quality, speed, ease of setup/use and cost per page.

For those looking to incorporate color to your network, I highly
recommend taking a closer look at solid ink technology as opposed to
color laser. Speed, reliability and lower maintenance costs are big
pluses (as is the fact that you get free black ink for life, so you can
use the color printer not only for traditional DTP work, but also for
day-to-day office printing).

Sorry if my message seems a Tektronix add, but it's hard not to get
enthusiastic when you get a product that lives to its promises and beyond
(of course, we have no affiliation or economic interest with Tektronix
whatsoever, aside from being a satisfied customer).
