        G'Day, Mate!

Well, it sort of is "on topic," because most all of us buy
over the Internet.

Basically, fraud is fraud. If someone is hell-bent on
committing fraud, it
doesn't make any difference whether it's over the phone, in person, or over
the Internet.

For example, my father's business had an Exxon credit card. One day, an
attendant took the card for a $12 gas purchase and "swiped" it through 5
times. He then put the extra $48 in cash in his pocket. It didn't show up
until the bill arrived and was checked.

At least with eCommerce, there is a written record of the transaction.
This is especially true if instead of using a browser-based SSL form you
send it in via PGP-encrypted eMail. There will be a message ID attached to
the message, which is traceable.

Personally, I don't use encrypted eMail... What I do is write
up and eMail
my order with all the billing & shipping info... Everything EXCEPT the
credit card number. I then put at the end that I'll call them with the
credit card number.

By the way, a 13 year old kid from Haddonfield, New Jersey -
About a mile
from where I live - was the kid who placed over $4 million in bids on eBay!
His mother was on the local news last night (WCAU TV10, Philadelphia).

        Cheers!
        Dan
