Mr. Langer,

The comments by Curtis Wilcox appear to be very useful and adequate.

However, if you cannot make it work from Curtis's commentary . . .

you may want to try the following:

I believe it may be best to run VirtualPC or Dave separately but not
both at the same time. They may both be trying to do the same thing in
different ways and probably will step on each others toes.

VirtualPC enables the Mac to become a PC.

Dave enables the Mac to appear and function as a PC on a Wintel Network
over TCP/IP (I believe).

Other than not running them simultaneously, you can try re-ordering
their start up order by using name change method (putting a space in
front of one of their names, or even better, putting a tilde in front of
one of their names) or by using the renowned start up manager "Conflict
Catcher" from Casady & Greene. This method may enable you to run them
without conflicting with each other.

Generally, the more utility like an application is (that is the more it
does background and low-level things in the Mac's environment) the less
it is able to run next to another app/utility that does the same exact
thing (also in the background). IMO both of these applications are this way.

Additionally . . .

Either Conflict Catcher or the Mac Extension Manager can be used to
create start up sets.

You can create different sets to do different things.

One set for Dave, with VirtualPC turned off.

One set for VirtualPC, with Dave turned off.

BTW how do you like that powerbook?

Hope you get it going . . .

Kelly
