I know that the LaserWriter is Postscript but is the HP4000?

If they're both PostScript then they should print the same. If the HP is
not PostScript then you might see some differences.

You might be able to make the work in that it would print but it won't make
your document print the same since it's the printer that's really different.

And if the HP is not PostScript then I wouldn't do that.

Probably not since most laser printers have about the same printable area.

Not if they are downloaded to the printer at the time of printing.

>Are print drivers and printer PPDs separate animals?

Yes. A print driver really is the engine that creates the file where as
the PPD is merely a file that describes a printer's characteristics.
