RE: [WinMac] WIN print: to HP then Apple

Douglas,

One important consideration is whether the printers on the respective
platforms have the same characteristics. As an extreme example, I wouldn't
expect a document I created on my Mac for a tabloid printer would print as
designed when sent to a LaserJet 4. More typical of the problems I've
encountered is the printable area on one of the printers being less than
that which the document used. Font types are another concern in that the
rendering of some characters may be different depending upon the the type of
fonts (TrueType, PostScript, etc.) being used.

With vanilla documents, using "standard" fonts, and destined for similar
printers, compatibility is pretty good. As complexity increases, more user
intervention will be required.

I've had much better luck getting nearly exact reproduction with PostScript
and PDF documents than with Word, Excel, and their ilk.
