No. and no.

You really don't need DAVE on the Mac if you can (if they let you ;)
enable Services for Macintosh on the NT server. This essentially runs
Appletalk stacks on the NT server making it appear like another Mac
(albeit a crippled one, ohhhh, couldn't contain myself) to the other Macs.

You would use DAVE on the Mac if you couldn't load Services for Macintosh
on the NT server (maybe due to some ignorant Network Administrator who's
still stuck in Appletalk Phase I being a "chatty" protocol).

(Hmmm... I'm gettin more bitter with age apparently).
