On working in the past:

Dan, for someone claiming not to work in the past, you sure
dig deep in the archives (old CD-burners, Quadras and whatnot)
when it comes to criticizing Apple, Macs and - dare I utter
the dreaded name - Steve Jobs ;-) Then you can go on, and
on, and on, about old perceived 'grievances'.

So, how about finally burying that Jobs hatchet - please?

On Alpha:

$1.5mm Alpha setups are cute, but for those of us in the real
world, staying in the regular $5K to $50K range for equipment
might be more productive - at least for those of us without
MS carte blanche budgets.

Dan, isn't it true that maybe all of about 4% of NT users run
NT on Alpha? - hint, hint, *maybe* we ought to focus on less
esoteric hardware? Unless you can point to a market segment
that Alpha 'owns', I'd suggest that it is not a very useful
reference point for most of us NT users. In short, nice as
Alpha is, it simply is not very relevant - at least not as a
constructive solution to our NT problems.

On Korean NT:

BTW, I installed the Korean version of NT4 with SP3 on a 486
box with only 16MB the other week... It runs a *bit* slow ;-)
but it works just fine as an email/wordprocessing station.

MS Word 97 Korean needed SP1 before it could even open. Turns
out the Korean version of Word 97 (just like Japanese Word 97)
was still in (what must be considered) alpha when MS released
it - and then MS had the gall to charge a bundle for the SP!
The SP1 exceeded 20MB+ in both cases... Gatesified anyone? ;-)

On IMAP:

On a new note, we're looking at a new mail server - our FreeBSD
box is getting winded (not a minute down in 2 years though) and
we're also contemplating moving to IMAP.

I have heard many good things about ASIP6.1 and it's mail server,
does anyone have specific recommendations on the use of IMAP under
ASIP6.1 in a mixed NT/Mac environment that also uses double-byte
platforms here and there? Tall order, yes, but maybe someone on
the list has advice.

Besides thinking that a Mac might be better at handling these issues,
I'd like a reason to buy one of those new, blue G3 boxes... ;-)

Thanks for your time.
