Actually, I would NEVER part with my trusty Quadra 610... Most stable Mac
ever built. Until HFS+ came along, its about the best Mac for disk repair
and data recovery. I load System 7.5.1 yet still have the option to load
SCSI Manager 4.3.1 (depending on the driver used on the HDD I'm recovering.
And when my a** is on the line I know I can count on it... Slow but
dependable. Same for my 3 1/2 year old CD burner. :)

Whoa there, those are fighting words! Actually, over 10% of NT/Server
installations are AlphaNT. And since complete, ready-to-run 533 mHz 21164PC
Alpha systems are available for $1700, my question to you is "What part of
533 mHz don't you understand?!

Also, for those of you that have had their fill of "windoze," you would
actually enjoy installing and using NT on an Alpha system. Many "strange"
things can happen with NT/x86 (due to so damn many platform variations);
but DIGITAL and M$ actually copied Apple's formula for success in the 80's
through early 90's -- When Apple was making billions of dollars annually:
Up through the early PowerMacs, there were very few platform variants
(about 77, if memory serves me correctly). It is EASY to write a robust
operating system when you only have to support a few platform variations --
Apple proved this philosophy; and DIGITAL & M$ copied it. Speed and
stability... What a nice combination!

Check out <http://www.alphant.com> for more info; and for inexpensive
Alphas check out DCG Computers at:
<http://www.dcginc.com> for their home page; and the frame:
<http://www.dcginc.com/98/fr_sx_series.html> for their Alpha SX specials.
And while you are at the AlphaNT site <http://www.alphant.com> check the
Vendors page.

DISCLAIMER: I have no financial interest in DCG... Just a satisfied customer.

And I too would be REALLY pissed to have to pay for bug fixes. Hey, I
don't worship at the Gates "altar," either.

Although it would work for your IMAP needs, I wouldn't recommend M$
Exchange Server because it can be an administrative headache, especially
when you have a steady-state Internet connection.

Please keep us posted about what you uncover about ASIP and IMAP...

Actually, Apple FINALLY got the message that 3 PCI slots aren't enough,
especially for professional video work.
