Oy, no, actually a lot of people _do_ know that a computer is made
up of parts made by other manufacturers. Or well, i think people
understand the concept. ("Hey, my Compaq has this weird 'Intel'
chip! Who put that in there?!") When we open up an Apple LaserWriter,
we might notice that the toner cartridge we're putting inside is
branded HP or Canon.

But as Dan said, with _hard drives_ for Macs, it _is_ significant
whether your hard drive has an Apple logo on the box (be it the
external models that they sold in the olden days, or the cardboard
box that an internal drive might come in nowadays.)

Stupid Apple ROMS! (Sorry, but it annoys me that Apple just won't buy
the rights to the fine FWB product and then give it away, instead of
forcing us to use "Apple-approved" drives with Apple HD Setup.)

(And what _was_ the deal with that? Typical Apple snobbery?)

Anyways...
