Re: [WinMac] SCSI-2 HD on a Mac?

Hello,

I have used the version of Drive Setup that came with OS 8.1 and
used it to setup many different SCSI drives for the HFS+ file system. The
latest Drive setup version is 1.6.1 I believe and can be had with the OS
8.5.1 update or downloaded from Apple's software update site. The most
unusual drive I have set up is a 4Gb SCSI-3 that was meant for a Sun
hot-swap expansion subsystem. I bought a small adapter from CS-Electronics
to hook it up to the internal Ultra-Wide controller on a PM9600. I have
only used Apple's Drive Setup to initialize and partition all of the drives
in the 15 or so Macs that I manage. I have not even experienced any of the
so called serious problems of data loss that has been reported after
installing OS 8.5.

I am not familiar with the 6500. Your internal drive is most
likely IDE as some one has already suggested. However, the CDROM may be
SCSI. If that is the case, connect your drive before the CD-ROM, give it an
ID of something other than 3 or 7 (the CD-ROM is usually ID-3 and the
system is ID-7) and make sure it isn't terminated. The first and last
device on the SCSI chain must be terminated. The CD-ROM being the last and
currently only device on the Internal SCSI chain is already terminated, and
the System (first device) is always terminated.

I hope this helps.
