It appears that this is a Wintel laptop only issue. But if there are
any folks wondering how this works on a Mac PowerBook, here's a simple
answer.

We use an NT-based Exchange server for POP3 e-mail. Using Outlook, I
have the server forward my mail to my CompuServe address while on the
road. I have a control strip module (TCP CC 1.2 Software by Tim Kelly)
that allows me to quickly change my TCP/IP configuration settings from
my Ethernet settings to my CompuServe settings (Location Manager can
also do this, and I understand OS 8.5 is a little more Wintel-like in
allowing multiple configuration settings at once -- perhaps someone
else can address that, since I'm not using it yet).

I make a PPP connection to the local CompuServe POP or 800#, then I
run Outlook Express to get my e-mail. I never have a browser window
open. It would seem the same could be done with the PC laptops. Just
use a POP3 e-mail client like Express, Eudora, Pegasus or other, and
forget Explorer.
