[WinMac] Re: ANAT / AppleTalk zones on RRAS VPN

I was looking to purchase Network Assistant, to remote-control our macs. I
spoke with Apple Educational sales, which is where you buy this product
from. They told me that Network Assistant is part of Apple Network
Administrator's Toolkit (ANAT) and it costs $399 for 10 licenses.

The bad news is that you cannot manipulate or connect to another computer
using just TCP/IP. The computers must also be on the same AppleTalk
network. In other words, you can't just put in the IP address of the mac
you want to see; you have to be able to get to that mac from your Chooser.

This is a bummer because while our NT LANs are connected by VPN, the Mac
users aren't capable of seeing the AppleTalk zones on our other LANs. Which
leads to a question: Is it possible to extend the AppleShare capabilities
of NT so that our AppleTalk zones "know about" the VPN links between our 3
LANs? We are using Microsoft's RRAS for the VPN, mainly because it's free.
Is this what the 'Enable Routing' checkbox in the Control Panel -> Network
-> Services for Macintosh -> Properties page would do? I'm a little afraid
to check this box, esp. since on our LAN here noone ever bothered to give
our AppleTalk zone a name.
