Mac users need to remember to add the three character extension to their
file names so that Win95 users will automatically recognize them: .DOC for
Word, .XLS for Excel, .PPT for Powerpoint (Win95 supports long file names,
so just try the "name.3" rather than the older 8.3 naming procedure so you
don't have to completely rename the file -- some utility writer should
produce a plug-in for Office that would automatically do that, but so far I
haven't seen one) -- and be careful that you save the files in a compatible
version. If one uses Office 97/98 and is sending it to a Word 6 user, save
it as a Word 6 file.

Going the other way (at least for Word), Word 6 users can get an automatic
file converter plug-in from MS that will convert Office 97/98 files to Word
6 (very handy to have). And as far as those three character extensions go,
turn on the PC Exchange control panel and map the extensions to your
versions of those programs for your Mac to automatically recognize them
(also very useful)
