I'm not sure if this is an issue, but if the macs are G3s check the version
of the "G3 Ethernet" extension. It should be 2.04 (or higher, perhaps, by
now.) I believe this was part of 8.1, but..

Hey, you never know.

All 10/100 combo cards will check to see if they have a clean link at
100Mbps, and if they don't they will drop to 10, probably trying 100Mbps
half-duplex along the way. We have a similar problem with a few PCs here
but they have been traced to faulty cable runs, and they ALWAYS drop to
10Mbps.

As for the ethernet cards themselves, I like Kensington KNE-100TX more than
the Asante Fast Ethernet Adapter but both work. I found diagnostics to be
less tiresome with the Kensington, and its much cheaper. No experience with
the Dayna card.
