[WinMac] Macintosh Network Connections

Our network has both Windows 95 and Macs (System 8.1). We are connecting
to both 10 and 100 ethernet, category 5 wiring. We are not having any
problem with the PC's that are connecting to the 100's; however, the
Macs are giving us fits. Some of the Macs do not have any problems at
all, but others will not recognize the 100 when they log on in the
morning. If we pull the cable out of the 100, put it into a 10, and then
put it back into the 100, they suddenly work.

What could be keeping them from seeing 100 capability when they first
log on? Is there a certain period of time on the Macs that they try to
see the network and then they timout? We are using Asante cards (we have
also tried Dayna cards, with the same result) in the Macs, and I have
downloaded the lastest drivers. Yesterday we loaded the drivers on, and
they worked fine (we rebooted them a few times to be sure). Last night
the Macs were shut down, and when we rebooted them this morning we had
the same problem.

We have tried two kinds of network cards, we have tried different slots
for the cards, and we have the latest drivers. We have had the lines
tested to make sure they are ok. Is there a glitch in the operating
system? My network support person doesn't even seem to know the answer
(although he doesn't know the answer for a lot of things).

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
