Mike, if you buy a PC, I expect that the Dell will make you happy. We have
had a great relationship with Dell and are pleased with all of their
products. They are high quality, have a good tech department, and are quick
to resolve problems; the Optiplex machines are a dream to work on, although
I haven't dealt with a Dimension chassis. Don't fiddle with Win 9x, though.
Get the system with WinNT. NT is more stable by far and will be much easier
for you to administrate your NT servers with. We are not a Novell shop
here, but I believe that all of the Novell tools are available to run under
NT - not sure on this, though.

128MB is a good start to the RAM...you might (probably will?) want more if
you are doing heavy-duty graphics stuff. If it's just lightweight graphics
editing, etc. 128MB should be ample. My NT4 Workstation, Service Pack 3,
with the IE4 Active Desktop update has 64MB of RAM - this is merely
adequate. With Outlook 98 and FrontPage Express running right now, I am
using about 61MB in the system. If I was going to get serious with graphics
stuff I'd have to upgrade my RAM.

Get as fast a processor as you can in it if you go with a PC - the G3 Mac
processors will pretty much blow away a comparable P2 processor for raw
computing power. Day to day tasks will probably feel faster on the PC, but
graphics apps will probably feel faster on the G3.
