What you are trying to do is actually very simple. all you need to do is:
(I am not at an NT station so the steps may not be +EXACT+, but you should
be able to follow them)

Go to the "network" control panel
select the "services" tab
Install the "TCP/IP printing" service
once you have done that, close the control panel, once you reboot, you
should be able to add an lpr port.
use the IP number of the SGI, don't use the DNS name. (I don't think it will
let you anyway)
---------------------------------------

If you are still having problems, e-mail me directly, I use Unix Servers as
several locations, in my office I use Linux as a print server for NT.
I'll be back in my office on tuesday
-------------------------

Another solution would be to replace the LPR code in NT with a third-party
product called NIprint from http://www.netinst.com $29.00

--------------------------

Anothe solution would be to install SAMBA on the SGI , that would make the
SGI appear as an NT server.

I've used Samba on an SGI Indy,a SunOS Server and a Linux Box.
IT works very well, but for only one NT machine, the LPR route makes more
sense.

BTW, I have not tried this, but the new Apple Laserprinter drivers implement
LPR, this would (in theory) be a LOT faster that Appletalk, you might want
to give it a try.
