[WinMac] Showing pictures and videos in class

I have just landed a new university teaching job and would like to present
pictures and video clips in the classroom. I am thinking about getting Mac
Powerbook G3 to use. I would appreciate some information about any or all
of the following questions:

1) What hardware and software do I need to be able to show pictures and
video clips in the classroom?

2) Can I use PowerPoint for such presentations? Is it the best program to use?

3) What is the quality level of digital video captured by video boards
these days? If I want to show 4 or 5 minutes of a volcano erupting, will
the image quality be significantly better if I use the original video
footage, as compared with digitized video?

4) If the classroom already has a PC computer that is hooked up to TVs, and
has a Zip drive, can I use a Zip disk that I formated on a Mac?

Thanks!
