[WinMac] SFM on Alpha

I have a dual 275MHz DEC Alpha server running NT4,SP3, SFM hotfix. I am using
it as a prepress file server and print spooler. My main problem is the time it
takes to despool print files over Appletalk (100baseT). In a recent test it
took 600 seconds to output a 130MB spool file to an Appletalk queue published
by a Sun Sparc20. It took about half that time when I did a similar test on a
single processor 200MHz pentium.

Other tests have found that spooling to a file is very fast, and that the
Appletalk spooling speed is no slower going to a 10BaseT device than to a
100BaseT device. This implies that it is so slow that it can't even keep up
with 10BaseT ethernet. A rough calculation puts it at 2 Mbits/sec.

Someone told me that Windows NT runs in emulation mode on Alpha processors. Is
this true? Would that account for the difference in spooling times. Does
anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,
Jamie Stotz
