I understand part of your query, and It has represented most of mine and
my subsequent solution! I had a Performa 630CD that I've used
successfully for 3 years, before Win95 came out! Now, I'm running MacOS
8.1 AND Win95 on the same machine? I bought a 486/66 card made for a
Performa 630 series, thus my 630 is now a Performa 640/52ram/1.6 IDE
internal drive/8.1! And, I've got Win95 with its own 32 mb simm, using
the same old Mac 14" Multi-scan monitor, same old floppy, same CD, same
Zoom 14.4 cross-platformable modem, for Netscape Communicator, AOL 3.0,
Office 97, and so much more! Also, I have an external drive + a 1 gig
virtual PC drive for Win95 files! But, while I have printed a couple of
pages from Win95 to my Stylewriter II print, its too complicated of a
proceedure with the print spooler and other PC setup software, I just
save it to an IBM disk and print my PC files at work on any one of the
many PC printers!
You can get one of these Performa 640's for $600-$700, but you'd need to
find a copy of Win95 (mine is circa 96), + about $200 for more Ram
(probably two 32 mb simms and a 16 mb simm), + about $150 for a
cross-platform 56K modem (which I'm looking for one for under $100, I
currently also have a Global Village 14.4 modem that I bought for $19
dollars to fill all but 1 slot inside my 640), + about $150 for a 14"
monitor, then I suspect about $150 for an HP or Epson cross-platform
inkjet printer <may> work! Somewhere around a $1000 for both platforms!
