She has a 6100? I've got a Performa 640/52ram/1.6gig/MacOS 8.1 that has
a 486/66mhz/32ram/Win95 PC card inside! It has allowed me to access
virtually any program of that much larger Win95 software platform! She
can get Win95 to run (somewhat slowly) (but accesses) on her probably
486 card inside her 6100! Only I would recommend that she put the max
of a 32 mb simm in it! (Win95 needs it!) In the benchmarking utility
within Win95, my machine with the 32 simm benchmarks at 8.4 vs 7.2 for
the nominal 486/66, about a third under a Pentium 133! As I've have,
she could probably find a leftover copy of Win95 cheap and go from
there! Mine is circa 96! And, it even meets the minumum for Win98, but
I imagine since Win98 is so processor intensive, it will be
excrutiatingly slow! Win95 is slow, but entirely usable! For surfing
using Netscape Communicator 4.0.5, AOL 3.0, Office 97, Quicken, and
numerous others! Even my bank's Win95 only online-banking software! My
Zoom 14.4 is cross-platformable!
Only I don't print from Win95 to my Stylewriter II printer! I can
print, and I have, but using the print spooler and so forth is just so
complicated, I just save my PC work to a disk and print it at work! I'm
very satisfied with my 1998 upgrade to a Win95 machine, while still
keeping my Mac that I got before Win95 came out!
Tell her to send any more questions she might have!
