Why wouldn't a dos formatted drive work? OS 9 could see dos, so will XP
and OS X. Also, I don't know what format those USB pen drives are in
but they'll work on all you mentioned plus Linux, FreeBSD and several
others. It would be interesting to know what format they use for those.

Either way, dos format should do what you want for now though.
