I wasted a lot of time and money trying to make various options work
for connecting my G4 to my old HP LaserJet 5 MP.

I finally purchased an HP JetDirect 300X on eBay, new in the box, for
$99. (I believe HP sells this item for around $250.) Connect your hub
to the JetDirect's ethernet port, connect the JetDirect to the
printer via a parallel cable, DONE in under 60 seconds. Any Mac on
the network will instantly be able to see the printer.

I'd suggest you might want to simply purchase a couple of JetDirects
now (you will need one JetDirect for each of your laser printers) and
cut your losses (in terms of what your time is worth) trying to make
LocalTalk Bridge work on the 2400 -- how much longer do you expect to
have the 2400, anyhow, and are you using it for any reason other than
trying to set up network printing?

When you get your NT on the network, I believe you will have to use
the JetDirect software (included in the box, and also check for
updates on the HP site) to assign an IP address to the JetDirect. On
the Mac side, printing is done via AppleTalk so you only need to do
    this for the NT.

    good luck!
