Re(2): [WinMac] Cable vs DSL (combined reply)

I "experienced" this with Earthlink's DSL service.
Had a lot of problems getting this to run cleanly.
Connection going down every so often, without any
apparent reason etc.

MacPoet is actually one of several system-addons
that handle the PPPoE - there are other versions
as well.

I strongly second Tom Roth's point about using a
router that handles PPPoE.

Currently I use a cable modem (no DSL in the area)
from 3Com US Robotics (the CMX) hooked up to an
SMC7004ABR Barricade router.

The Barricade has stellar performance, costs around
$80, supports PPPoE, and has several other features
such as a print server (which I have yet to test)
already built-in. It has 4 downstream 10/100 ports.
