It's probably not the file format but the encoding scheme being used to convert the binary file to ascii and back again. The PC AOL is not recognizing the encoding used by the Mac. If you email has different encoding options for attached files available, try MIME or UUEncode as that's common for most PC email programs. AOL? Who knows? Most Mac email programs use BinHex but on the other end it's just garbled. If the receiver can save the file he or she might be able to use the Windows version of Aladdin's Expander to decode the file.
