You need two: a serial printer cable (aka a null-modem cable) that'll take
you from the serial port on the PC to the serial port on the LaserWriter.
Standard pin-outs here, just get the right size connector on each end (I
think it's a DB-9 female to DB-25 male that you need, but I could be wrong ˙
I'm going off memory on this, and that been a dangerous thing lately.)

Then you need software to make the PC speak AppleTalk. If you're using NT or
Windows 2000 (and possibly some of the other, newer PC OS's ˙ again, I don˙t
remember exactly which) you don˙t need anything else ˙ they have AppleTalk
built-in for printing. I know that if it's Windows 95 or 98 or 98SE, you'll
need third-party software. I've used PC MacLAN in the past, but I'm sure
there are other solutions that fellow posters can suggest.

I had no problems with the serial cable and PC MacLAN under Windows 98. You
probably need to change the jumper setting on the back of the LaserWriter to
tell it you're sending Postscript over AppleTalk via the serial port. That
setting, I think, is slightly different for each of the LaserWriter II
series, but your manual should identify what you need. Other posters can
probably help here, too. Oh, and all of Apple manuals are available at
Apple's web site and a few people's personal pages, too, if you can˙t find
yours.

Hope this helps.
